Thanks for making the trip so we know what it's like. Also, thanks for the recommendations, I hope they're applied because we know the hurricanes will only become more frequent and more intense, as our planet recently recorded four days of the highest temperature ever in history. God help us as we help ourselves.

Never been to Treasure Beach, how did I grow up in Jamaica and see so little of it!

I am a bit late in responding, but thanks for this report. We stayed at Jake's with our son and his partner less than two years ago - memories are fresh. I loved the shady parts. In fact I feel there is not enough shade at Jake's or in the community, but then Treasure Beach is a very hot, dry place. Lignum vitae grow slowly but are perfect (is acacia a native tree? I know it likes the dry but...) I hope they will think about what tree species to replant. I can't believe they are going to replace the poles with wooden ones. Not a good move. As for the roofs, we can testify to the great value of hurricane straps, which are not widely used but which I think saved our roof in Portland! They're not expensive. Hoping to visit Treasure Beach soon but as you say, not in a voyeuristic way...

Apparently there are many species of acacia, some native, some not, and I'm not sure which ones fell over in Treasure Beach. Yes, hurricane straps work to protect the whole roof, but you can still lose sheets of zinc or other types of roofing, if they are not secured property. Thanks for reading and responding., Ems..
