Enjoyed this piece despite the outcome of the court case. Such a touching tribute to Justice Morrison whom I knew (sadly) only slightly. Thanks Diana for sharing the stories!

So sorry to hear of his passing. A true giant in all the best ways. Walk Good brother.

(BTW I actually was living in Kingston those years, but as you know had relevant interests given my long-proposed North Coast National Park (St. Mary), going back over 3 decades now. I wear it as a badge of honour to have been named an individual applicant in that case. Seems, however that Jamaica has not learned its lessons, public consultations are poppy shows, and EIAs continue to be substandard, and always couched in inherent conflicts of interest. The whole Pear Tree Bottom case needs to be looked back at now - I hope I will find the time to do it... thanks for your comment Ellie.

Wow! May God rest his beloved, principled soul. God bless you and Wendy for being giants among us. With elapsed time and changes, do you think a similar strategy might be useful to address the proposed large scale development on the table for environmentally sensitive areas

Legal action is a viable strategy, for sure. But it takes expertise, money, time and courage. Also a claimant. There are three constitutional environmental cases before the courts now - but I don't know how long they will take to be heard...

So there IS a way forward! “expertise, money, time and courage. Also a claimant.” We have the first three in abundance, including money - it’s just what we choose to do with it. I imagine it would be challenging for one claimant, so maybe several? I refuse to accept that the land that Nanny and the unschooled Maroons freed from the British will succumb in this age to greed that “enriches” a few, and violent oppression from our brothers and sisters to enslave our land and people. Let us envision a mighty people rising up to cherish our precious likkle islan’ of wood and water.
